Field test of active night cooling supplied by district cooling in three commercial buildings

Several previous studies have investigated active night cooling strategies to reduce the peak load in buildings, primarily by precooling building ventilation air during night. In this study, is supplied use of district cooling, mainly for buildings hydronic systems, such as chilled beam or fan coil but potentially also cool if outdoor temperature above supply setpoint. A field test with was conducted summer 2020 three commercial located Gothenburg, Sweden. The strategy implemented changing time schedule operation buildings’ systems twenty-four hours per day first half and back regular schedules second half. results showed that failed hourly maximum power. However, load, corresponding 100 highest power, reduced 6.5% one buildings. Active daytime energy usage between 0.7 4.6%. demonstrated some associated are more compatible than others. it possible achieve power reductions simple measures. providing will cause additional costs owners unless incentivized provider.
